Each Archipelago, a concept for an innovative approach to large scale urban design, is given a unique character with identical spatial features including city grid, landscape, massing plan and road. Through this concept, the YIBD master plan is composed of 6 “archipelagos” and 1 “Retail Valley”. Each Archipelago is divided by Retail Valley that symbolizes the waterway of a valley. Comprehensive items in master plan will be integrated with each Archipelago and be formed with individual identity and brand. Furthermore, it is expandable so that it can be incorporated in the design concept for the surroundings. The Archipelago 21 massing composition is inspired by the Golden Crown of Shilla, one of the finest artworks in Korean art history. The Yongsan International Business District (YIBD) will be a new, unique Korean treasure symbolizing Seoul.
